Shhh...
The Secret Theatre Company was formed in 1997; the founder members being, Katherine Kelly (Coronation Street's Becky Grainger), Keith Clifford (Last of the Summer Wine's Billy Hardcastle) and John Kelly, Barnsley based playwright and broadcaster.
The company presented a twenty week tour of John Kelly's play, 'Randles Scandals' - a biographical play covering the life and death of Frank Randle. Randle was, until his death in 195?, one of Britain's foremost comic actors... and certainly it's most notorious!
In 1999 the company became found a permanent home in Barnsley's Lamproom Theatre and, having become Barnsley's Secret Theatre Company it has continued to produce in-house productions in The Lamproom and regional tours.
Barnsley's Secret Theatre Company, in association with The Lamproom Theatre, are producing 'The English Mystery Plays' by John Kelly at Monk Bretton Priory and are planning a regional theatre tour of John Kelly's play, 'Sparkies' in 2010.

The Arts Council
Arts Council England works to get great art to everyone by championing, developing and investing in artistic experiences that enrich people's lives. As the national development agency for the arts, we support a range of artistic activities from theatre to music, literature to dance, photography to digital art, carnival to crafts.
Great art inspires us, brings us together and teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. In short, it makes life better.
Between 2008 and 2011 we'll invest in excess of £1.6 billion of public money from the government and the National Lottery to create these experiences for as many people as possible across the country.

Lamproom
The Lamproom Theatre Company is based in Barnsley and performs at the rapidly developing Lamproom Theatre on Westgate.
Born out of a derelict Methodist Chapel, the venue is Barnsley's only theatre and has been developed by a hard working group of volunteers. Regular visitors are amazed at the changes, which are always made to make theatre-going in Barnsley a pleasure.
Apart from the Lamproom Theatre Company (LTC), there are thriving youth theatre groups, one for under 11 (The Lamplyters) and one for over 11 (LYTEs). In addition there is the Lamproom Musical Theatre Company.
These companies are at once separate but at times mutually dependent according to various production needs.
Barnsley Theatre hosts many plays, musicals, and one man shows every year, providing the people of Barnsley with an opportunity to enjoy theatre, comedy, music, panto, family entertainment and live performances of great variety.
Barnsley Theatre and the Barnsley Lamproom continue to grow and develop, making it the premier focal point for theatre and theatrical events in Barnsley.
